| Welcome to the Culver City Democratic Club! Serving Democrats in Culver City The club, established in 1952, is open to all registered Democrats. The monthly meetings, which usually take place on the second Wednesday of the month, vary in their focus. Some meetings are concerned with issues specific to Culver City. Other meetings take up issues of statewide, national or even international interest. We have refreshments available a half hour before every meeting so you have a chance to meet the other members and chat. Our club has various active committees in which you can participate to help support Democratic values and get our Democratic candidates elected. Please come and attend our next meeting. “Do not mistake activity for achievement” – John Wooden “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." – Edmund Burke (1729-1797) Tuesday 02 February 2010 Club Meeting February 10 -- Culver City Council Candidates Forum and Endorsement Vote Our Club will be holding a Forum for all Culver City Council candidates at our February 10 meeting. Monday 10 August 2009 August - John Dean will Speak Club News Greg Valtierra Monday 10 August 2009 - 20:05:41 JOHN DEAN to speakWednesday, August 12, 2009 7:30 PM Rotunda Room, Veterans Building, 4117 Overland Avenue(off Culver), ADMISSION IS FREE ! John Dean, key government witness of the Watergate prosecution, is a best-selling author and frequent guest commentator on cable and network news, and has great fondness for speaking to Democratic Clubs. He’s speaking at no charge to us, but would like to sell his book! John will be addressing two issues: Torture and the Abuses of Governmental Power. He has closely followed the torture debates happening in Congress and throughout the country. His keen legal insights cut through the emotional argument and attack the core of the national debate – the constitutionality and legitimacy of the use of torture by the U.S. John’s analysis includes: o The perceived vs. actual benefits of torture o the legality of the infamous torture memos o torture as war crime o the types of torture o use of domestic vs. international law in prosecuting those sanctioning torture activities o the consequences of failing to hold an administration responsible for authorizing torture John will also speak about the startling new revelations found in the re-release of his best-seller, Blind Ambition: The End of the Story. As Nixon apologists continue to rewrite the history of the Watergate break-in, Dean exposes new details that validate and clarify the truth of his original work. Blind Ambition continues to hold relevance, especially in the wake of the Bush Administration, in its documentation of the abuses of governmental power. The Club hosted a candidate forum at our General Meeting on February 11. The Democratic candidates in attendance were Robert Cole, Mike Davis, Saundra Davis, Jon Friedman and Curren Price. When no candidate got the required 60%, a second vote was held with the same result. Los Angeles Community College Board - Election Results Kelly Candaele and Miguel Santiago won their races outright.
