Joel Foreman moved that CCDC support Proposition W, Tom Camerella seconded, and the motion passed with one nay. Information Compiled by Karlo Silbiger Measure W is on the April ballot to update Culver City’s Utility Users’ Tax and maintain funding for vital city services. It will: • Update the existing Telephone and Cable Utility Users’ Tax (UUT) to ensure Culver City’s laws keep pace with changes in technology, as well as state and federal law. • Protect funding for vital City services such as police, fire protection and paramedics, street and park maintenance, and tree trimming, among others. • NOT tax Internet access. • Continue to allow an exemption for low-income seniors and the disabled, regardless of age. • Treat all technologies equally. • Protect a source of funding which cannot be diverted by the county or state. • Require independent financial audits to ensure all funds are properly collected and spent. Since many members and other Democrats have been calling and asking for our recommendations, the best we can do is to post what sister organizations have endorsed to give you a wider view of the propositions and endorsements. We are NOT endorsing any of these propositions, only making them available for your perusal. Southern California Americans for Democratic Action 92 Yes 93 Yes 94-97 No Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles 91 No 92 Yes 93 No 94-97 No Westside Democratic Club 91 No 92 No 93 Yes 94-97 No Friday 18 January 2008 February Meeting Misc Brian Pogue Friday 18 January 2008 - 17:55:59 CC City Counsel Democratic Candidates - Endorsement Meeting Come and hear the candidates give their positions and answer your questions. "Carnage, A Comedy" Misc Brian Pogue Friday 28 December 2007 - 15:35:28 Join us Sunday afternoon at 2pm on February 17 at The Actors’ Gang, 9070 Venice Blvd., Culver City for the opening of their 2008 season with "Carnage, A Comedy," By Adam Simon and Tim Robbins. For more information, please call: Ronnie Jayne (310) 836-7557 (A CC Democratic Club Fundraising Event) Wednesday 19 December 2007 Club votes for Primary Candidates – endorses None Misc Brian Pogue Wednesday 19 December 2007 - 15:36:52 But the numbers are telling... After listening to representatives from most Democratic candidates, with a few questions from the club members, we had our first vote as follows: Ballot # 1: Total ballots cast - 44, Invalid or Blank - 3, Total Valid Ballots - 41, the 60% required for a single candidate would equal 25 ballots: Biden - 0, Clinton - 6, Dodd - 1, Edwards - 15, Gravel - 0, Kucinich - 5, Obama - 9, Richardson - 3, and No Endorsement - 2. As these number were read to the members still remaining, and the determination that there were insufficient votes to endorse, we had a second vote with the following results: Ballot # 2: Total ballots - 36, Invalid or Blank - 0, Total Valid ballots - 36, 60% equals 22 ballots, Biden - 0, Clinton - 5, Dodd - 0, Edwards - 19, Gravel - 0, Kucinich - 1, Obama - 9, Richardson - 0, No Endorsement - 2. So, although some thought it all a waste of time, and even though there was no endorsement, the vote count is telling and similar to some resent polls: Edwards with a significant lead, Obama with a not-so-close second and Clinton a far off third. The next questions seem to easily present themselves – What would have happened with a 3rd vote? Is this indicative of how California Democrats will vote in February? Monday 27 August 2007 This Month... Misc Brian Pogue Monday 27 August 2007 - 14:05:42 DECEMBER - Presidential Candidate Endorsement Meeting Culver City Democratic Club endorsement meeting for the Presidential Primary that will take place on Tuesday, February 5, 2008.
